This checklist is provided to assist teachers to ensure minimum requirements for

classroom display environments are met.  The following must be evident in your room.

Quality Books

 

Quality Book Standards

How quality work and consistency across the school can be achieved.

All books are of value and an important record of work

Expect quality work, the best each child is capable of

No scribbles or doodles anywhere in books

Presentation must be taught e.g. model using a ruler, measuring, lettering, use

of space, balance of presentation

Standardised dates, numerical e.g. 02.02.03 written in the margin.

Title/Heading centred and underlined in red pen.

Miss a line underneath heading/title or beginning work.

Sub-headings written against margin

Underline misspelt words in black pen

WALT written in red pen next to margin

- Junior Area – symbols - Senior Area - written

Marking – marking key to be implemented.

o Should be marked by teacher/student to show work is valued

o Comments relevant to teaching goals / WALTs

o Teachers write in blue pen

o Students mark and revise in red pen

Expectation that all work will be completed within timeframes.

If ruling off, miss a line and rule in black pen right across the page. (from Y3)

No felts, no twink, no gel pens to be used.

All books to be clearly named and labelled: first and second name, room,

subject.

 

Individual Books

Black pen only

Students recraft in red, teachers in blue

Write on every second line

Longer pieces of writing dated in the margin at the beginning of each entry.

Mistakes – cross out each word by hand in black pen.

One diagonal line through larger mistakes

Spelling approximations to be underlined in black pen to signal check needed.

Students correct errors in red pen

 

Mathematics

Pencil to be used in all levels

Coloured pencils for graphs and other colouring in.

Book layout to be neat and appropriate to task.

Numbers to be clearly and neatly written followed by a dot.

Numbers to be in margin where applicable

Children mark their own work and rule off in red pen.

Handwriting / Language

Black pen used.

Full of short date optional depending on task.

Topic / Integrated Studies

Quality is emphasised.

Organised thinking eg graphic organisers / thinking charts

Quality presentation skills taught and used.

Attention to detail is expected in finished pieces of work.

Coloured pencils used at teacher’s discretion.
